My nephew was up for a couple of days helping work on our barnyard fence.

This is Wendall, who will be heading to our freezer this fall. He is just massive in the shoulders and front!

We have a grosbeak who’s been visiting our feeder all summer,IMG_1786copy-2014-07-26-20-16.jpg
The orioles have about given up on the feeders, there are so many bumblebees there isn’t room for the oriole to get any jelly. Here’s our hummer feeder. The hummers will sit and grab some nectar until the bees chase them away.

Yes, we have the safest food system in the world, according to certain politicians. I was quite impressed with that safe food system when I received an automated call last night from Costco, recalling boxes of fresh nectarines due to possibility of listeria contamination. And then I saw a news report tonight stating the same thing, and that the fruit could be returned for a full refund.

Just one little problem, I bought that box of nectarines over a month ago, and they are long gone. Yup, really safe food system.
